The Helix Nebula

The Eye of God

655 light years away, and 12,000 years ago, a sun-like star exploded in spectacular fashion - expelling waves of material outwards in bright blues and reds.

The explosion is tube-shaped, and our solar system is positioned to look directly down the “tube”, making it look to us like a great, omniscient eye.

This one-of-a-kind photo is the culmination of 3 years of effort and dozens of hours of exposure!
