How do you take a picture of the absence of light?
All around us, hidden in the night sky, are dark nebula - invisible, incomprehensibly gigantic clouds of gas and dust that emit no light.
The only way to see them is through extremely long exposure times, capturing the light that bounces off of them from distant stars.
This gigantic dust monster, 1000 light years away from Earth and 10 light years across in size, has no name, and is only known by its designation LDN 1228.
Given enough time, gravity will cause this nebula to gather and collapse, possibly erupting into brand-new stars.
35 hours of exposure captured in remote Nevada throughout 2026.
